Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design 3rd Biennial Symposium

Join us at the world famous Anfield Stadium, Liverpool, in November 2024 for the LRC Functional Materials Design 3rd Biennial Symposium and the inaugural 1st Early Career Colloquium. This 3rd Biennial symposium is for established and early-career scientists, post-graduate students and industrial researchers interested in materials discovery. We have brought together, under one roof, some of the world leading experts across all areas of materials research, a truly unique symposium is in store. Our 1st Early Career Colloquium is dedicated to early career researchers (PhD students, PDRAs and early career researchers in both academia and industry) which is open for ORAL abstract submission, and we encourage all delegates to contribute either oral abstracts or poster abstracts for the main symposium. This colloquium will give early career researchers the opportunity to present their research, build networks and serve as an ideal opening session for the main symposium. Places are limited for the Colloquium and early registration and abstract submission is encouraged.

Developing new high-performance materials is critical to enable next-generation technologies for society. New systematic and effective approaches to this problem are required given the slow pace with which new materials have traditionally been discovered when relying on serendipity and chemical intuition. The complexity and the multi-scale nature of the relationships between material's structure and its properties makes the design of a material with given properties one of grand scientific challenges of our times. The Leverhulme Research Centre for Functional Materials Design is moving this forward by fusing leading-edge synthesis concepts from the physical sciences with ideas from the forefront of computer science, alongside experts in robotics, engineering, management and social science. This symposium brings together experts across different scientific disciplines united by the common goal of accelerating materials discovery to discuss important themes such as grand challenges, the integration of computation and experiment, algorithms, and high throughput methods.
