based on Chemspeed-pioneered, fully automated, individually controlled and operated formulation vessels as well as process reactors in conjunction with its proprietary unrivalled overhead gravimetric dispensing of solid, liquid and highly viscous liquid raw materials. The head of High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) Technology Module, Lucius Kemp states: “It’s easier to automate a repeating process, like a production line, than it is in research and development. The former is compiled static repetitive actions, where the latter is an ever changing environment that requires a more fluid like solution. My group is Clariant’s central HTE laboratory, providing high throughput capabilities to all its research sectors. As one could imagine, we required a technical environment with high capacity, capability, flexibility and stability to service such a wide variety of research areas. Chemspeed’s technology provide the vast scope of capabilities needed to successfully service all of our research sectors. Chemspeed’s “plug and play” technology gives my team the ability to quickly assemble needed components and tools to carry out desired experiments and allow highly efficient transitions from project to project. One of the most important features for automating a bench process is the ability to reproduce each step on the automated instrument. Chemspeed platforms are designed to eliminate compromises in duplication of experimental tasks, and in many cases introduce improvements. We have added several Chemspeed platforms to automate the entire flow from chemical / ingredient dispensing, to synthesis, to process development and on to formulation. The addition of the Chemspeed technology into our HTE environment has enhanced our automated assisted research efforts greatly.”

Complementary and Spatially Resolved Operando Spectroscopic Investigation of Pt/Al₂O₃ and Pt/CeO₂ Catalysts during CO/NO Conversion

The composition of reaction mixtures strongly influences the structural evolution and performance of noble metal-based catalysts. In this work, we compared the effect of the simultaneous presence of CO and NO on the noble metal state and CO oxidation activity of Pt/Al2O3 and Pt/CeO2 catalysts under close-to-stoichiometric conditions using complementary in situ/operando X-ray and infrared spectroscopic techniques.

Influence of the CeO₂ Morphology and Initial Pd–Pt Interaction Degree on Catalyst Activity and Stability

Due to its peculiar properties and strong interaction with noble metals, ceria is widely used as a catalyst support for numerous applications. In this work, morphologically pure and highly crystalline ceria nanocubes and nanorods were prepared to systematically investigate both the impact of the support morphology and Pd–Pt interaction degree on the noble metal-support interplay during CO oxidation.

High-throughput RAFT Polymerization via Automated Batch, Increment, and Continuous Flow Platforms

We report an automated strategy to conduct RAFT copolymerizations using a Chemspeed robotic platform capable of executing batch, incremental, and continuous monomer addition workflows under inert conditions. Copolymerizations of oligo(ethylene glycol) acrylate with benzyl acrylate (as a control) and fluorescein o-acrylate were conducted in toluene, THF, and DMF, with reaction progress monitored via ¹H NMR spectroscopy at defined intervals.
